NEET 2026 Cutoff: Category-Wise Qualifying Marks

NTA released the category-wise qualifying cutoff alongside the NEET 2026 result on July 16. The qualifying cutoff is the minimum score required to participate in counselling, not the score required for MBBS admission.

CategoryQualifying PercentileQualifying Marks
General / UR / EWS50th PercentileCheck neet.nta.nic.in for exact marks
OBC-NCL40th PercentileCheck neet.nta.nic.in for exact marks

Important distinction: Qualifying the NEET cutoff makes a student eligible for counselling, it does not guarantee an MBBS or BDS seat. The admission cutoff is determined by MCC and state counselling authorities based on seat availability and competition during each counselling round.

Re-NEET 2026: What Happened and Why This Result Matters?

The original NEET UG 2026 examination was held on May 3, 2026 and NTA subsequently cancelled it following paper leak allegations. NTA conducted the Re-NEET UG 2026 on June 21, 2026 for all registered candidates, with no additional fee charged.

The Re-NEET 2026 result declared on July 16 is based entirely on the June 21 examination. The ongoing CBI investigation into the May 3 paper leak does not affect this result, the two are completely separate processes. NTA declared the result ahead of the July 20 expected date to ensure the medical admission and counselling calendar for 2026 stays on track.

NEET 2026 Counselling: What Happens Next?

Two separate counselling processes:

AIQ CounsellingMCCmcc.nic.in15% AIQ + AIIMS + JIPMER + Deemed + Central Universities
State Quota CounsellingState AuthorityState portal85% state quota seats

Both registrations are separate and independent, missing either means losing access to those seats regardless of score.

NEET SS Counselling 2026: Important Clarification

NEET SS (Super Speciality) counselling 2026 is a completely separate process from NEET UG counselling — it applies to postgraduate doctors seeking super speciality medical seats, not undergraduate students. For NEET UG 2026 qualified students, the relevant counselling processes are MCC AIQ counselling and state quota counselling. The Re-NEET result and paper leak investigation have no bearing on NEET SS counselling 2026.

What Every Student Must Do Right Now? Action Checklist

Today, July 17:

  • Download scorecard from neet.nta.nic.in immediately
  • Verify all fields; name, category, subject marks, AIR, category rank
  • Save at least 3 copies, digital and printed
  • Use AIR to estimate which colleges are realistically within range

Before MCC Registration Opens:

  • Research target colleges across AIQ and state quota based on AIR
  • Understand the difference between AIQ and state quota, register for both
  • Prepare all original documents; scorecard, Class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificate, photo ID

When MCC Registration Opens (last week of July):

  • Register at mcc.nic.in immediately, don’t wait for the last day
  • Pay the registration fee and security deposit
  • Register separately for Tamil Nadu state quota counselling

During Choice Filling:

  • Fill all AIIMS campuses if score is competitive
  • Fill both government and deemed university options
  • Don’t leave choices unfilled, more choices mean better outcomes

For Tamil Nadu NEET 2026 Students

The state counselling authority conducts Tamil Nadu NEET UG state quota counselling separately. It runs completely independently of MCC AIQ counselling. Students from Tamil Nadu must register for both portals separately, as missing either means losing access to those seats. Competing only against Tamil Nadu candidates in the state quota often makes the state merit list a more favourable pool than the All India Rank.
