How to check the JoSAA Round 4 result

The portal shows your result at 5 PM IST on July 10. Follow these steps the moment it goes live.

  1. Visit josaa.nic.in
Open the official JoSAA portal on a desktop or laptop browser. A stable internet connection helps you avoid timeouts during the high traffic period right after release.
  2. Find the Candidate Activity Board
On the homepage, locate the Candidate Activity Board section and click the Round 4 seat allocation result link once it appears there.
  3. Log in with your JEE Main credentials
Enter your JEE Main application number and password to access your dashboard. JEE Advanced candidates also use their JEE Main application number for this login.
  4. View and download your allotment letter
Your result shows the institute, programme, category, and the exact reporting deadline. Download and print the letter immediately for use during verification.
  5. Choose your response option
Decide between freeze, float, or slide based on your satisfaction with this allotment. Your choice determines whether you continue into Round 5 or lock this seat as final.

If your status shows seat not allotted, this simply means your filled choices did not match an available seat this round. You remain eligible for Round 5 automatically without taking any further action.

Freeze, float or slide after the Round 4 result

Once your result appears, you must pick one of three options. This single decision shapes whether your counselling journey ends now or continues.

Freeze and float explained

Freeze your seat

Choose this if you feel fully satisfied with the allotted institute and programme. You lock your seat permanently, exit further rounds, and proceed straight to physical reporting at the institute.

Float for an upgrade

Choose this if you want to keep the current seat as a safety net while still hoping for something better. You stay in Round 5 automatically, and JoSAA replaces your current seat with any improved allotment while letting you keep the backup.

Slide explained

Slide for a better branch

Choose this if the institute suits you but the branch does not. You remain at the same institute while JoSAA attempts to upgrade your branch in Round 5 based on your original preference order.

With only a couple of rounds typically left after Round 4, float remains a reasonable choice unless you already secured your genuine first preference.

Reporting process after the JoSAA Round 4 result

Regardless of which option you pick, you must complete reporting within the window as an allotted candidate. Many candidates make the costly mistake of assuming this step only applies to freeze candidates.

What reporting involves

Pay the seat acceptance fee online first, since this unlocks the remaining steps on the portal. Next, select your freeze float or slide preference from the dashboard. Then upload all required documents in the correct format before the deadline. Finally, if you chose freeze, you must also report physically at the allotted institute with original documents for verification.
