How to Handle Exam Pressure and Anxiety

As the exams are near the fear of failure and pressure to perform well and get good grades also increases. While having to prepare for exams is one thing, dealing with anxiety and pressure is another. While it is natural to feel anxious, it doesn’t have to take control over you, as too much stress can affect your mental and physical health. Here are some quick tips to manage exam anxiety to unlock your full potential:

  1. Be prepared.

Preparing ahead will help to confidently face exams and reduce last-minute cramming and stress. Summarize, learn, and understand topics in advance and be confident. Allocate time for learning important topics, practicing, and revising. The more prepared you are, the less anxious you will be.

  1. Be your cheerleader.

Replace your mindset From saying “I am not smart enough” or “I am going to fail” to “I have prepared well”, or “My hard work will pay off” These small affirmations will bring a great change in handling exams and reducing stress.

  1. Be mindful

Practice relaxation techniques during studying and exams. Take deep breaths, meditate, or do yoga to teach your mind to stay calm in stressful situations. This will help in manage your thoughts and emotions better and stay in the present moment.

  1. Don’t compare yourself with others

It is a natural tendency to compare yourself with others, but remember everyone has a different journey and different starting and ending points. It is unfair to compare yourself with others as the only person you have to compare is, the person you were yesterday. Track your progress and analyze how much you have grown as a person.

  1. Turn to someone for help.

The key is to ask for help when you need it. If you find it difficult to cope with the pressure speak to your friend, parents or teacher about it. While speaking to someone about your problems it helps reduce stress with their encouragement or advice.

Try to include these steps to reduce exam pressure and anxiety. Remember exams are just a part of life where it tests our knowledge. It does not define you or your worth. Study ahead, plan accordingly, take care of your health, be mindful, and feed yourself positive affirmations to break free from the wall of exam pressure.
