Exam Pattern plays a vital role in Exam preparation. Students are advised to know the exam pattern before preparing for the exams. The Directorate of Government Examinations, Tamil Nadu, will release the TN 12th exam pattern 2026. The Exam is conducted for a total of 100 marks. Out of 100, 70 marks are allotted for Theory and 30 for the practical exam. The marks are distributed in this manner for the TN 12th Exam.
The Tamil Nadu 12th board exam will be conducted across various centres in Tamil Nadu in Pen and paper mode. It’ll be held in March 2026. The Board will release the TN 12th time table 2026 in October 2025.

What is the TN 12th Exam Pattern 2026?
Each exam will be conducted for 3 hours. TN 12th exam papers comprise objective, short and long questions. The Question paper is divided into three parts.
- Part I – Tamil and Other Indian Languages
- Part II – English Language
- Part III – Major Subjects
The Question paper is divided into four sections,
- Section A – Multiple Choice Questions
- Section B – Two Mark questions
- Section C – Three Mark Questions
- Section D – Five Mark Questions
Sections B, C, and D consist of choices. Sections B and C contain a compulsory question.
Mark Distribution and Passing criteria for TN Class 12 Public Exam 2026:
Students should score a minimum of 35 marks out of 100 to pass each subject.
- Subjects which don’t have practicals, like languages, Mathematics the exams are conducted for 90 marks. Students must score 20 out of 90 to pass the exam.
- For subjects consisting of theory and practical, the marks are divided as 70 and 30. 70 is allotted for theory and 30 for practical.
- Vocational subjects consist of a practical exam only. Students must score 20 out of 75 to pass the exam.
